Administration
Interim Principal
Chad Raynor
It is my sincere pleasure and honor to serve as the Interim Principal of Piney Woods Elementary School. Piney Woods has a rich history of academic excellence built on strong partnerships among school staff, parents, and community members who provide high-quality educational experiences for all students. I am proud to join the amazing team working here.
I have worked in education for twenty-six years, including teaching middle school social studies and serving as an assistant principal at two elementary schools and one middle school. I currently live in Chapin and enjoy spending time with my family and friends. I have three daughters, all graduates of District Five schools, who are now living on their own.
As Interim Principal, it is important to me that everyone who comes through our doors - staff, students, parents, and community members - feels excited to be here.
Assistant Principal
Julie White
My name is Julie White and I am excited to serve as the Assistant Principal at the newest elementary school in our district, Piney Woods Elementary School. This will be my 16th year working in District 5. During my time in District 5, I have had the privilege of working at Dutch Fork Elementary, Chapin Elementary, Leaphart Elementary, and Lake Murray Elementary School. This will be my 6th year as an administrator in our district. I graduated from Newberry College with a Bachelors in Elementary Education and received a Masters in Educational Administration from the University of South Carolina. My husband, Jason, and I have two children, Justin and Sara. Justin will be a senior in college this year and Sara will be a senior in high school. Both of my children have been a part of School District Five since they started school! We also have 3 silly dogs that we consider our children as well! I am looking forward to a great school year and working with the finest administrators, teachers, students, and parents this district has to offer
Administrative Assistant Principal
Emily Cates
Hello! I’m Emily Cates, and I am so excited to join the Piney Woods Elementary School family. I have just completed my 13th year in education. My career began at Irmo Elementary School, where I taught Kindergarten, 1st grade, and 3rd grade, and most recently served as their Reading Coach.
When I’m not at school, I enjoy spending time with my family. My husband Danny and I have two wonderful children: Owen, who is 8, and Campbell, who is 3. We recently welcomed a new puppy named Bean! Our family loves spending time outdoors, often finding our way to the nearest soccer or baseball field.
I’m truly looking forward to meeting every family that calls Piney Woods home. It’s going to be a fantastic year!
