Hi Everyone!

This is my fifth year as a Literacy Coach at Piney Woods Elementary.

This is my 30th year in education! The first 10 years of my career were spent in the Central Valley of California, teaching second-language learners in grades 1 through 5. Eventually, I made the move to South Carolina, where I taught for 13 years at the Center for Inquiry in Richland Two and 3 years at the University of South Carolina. I am also an adjunct professor at Columbia College.

I graduated from Fresno Pacific University with a degree in Liberal Studies (Education K-8) in 1996 and a Master's Degree in Reading & Language Arts in 2003. I moved to South Carolina and completed my Ph.D. in Language & Literacy in 2016. I am certified in early childhood and elementary education, ESOL, middle school social studies, and music education.

In my spare time, I enjoy trail running, reading, and coaching the Dutch Fork girls' tennis team.

Hi Purple Martins!

I’m excited to begin my fifth year as a reading interventionist here at Piney Woods Elementary. It’s a joy to work alongside such dedicated coworkers, wonderful students, and supportive families in our school community.

This year marks my 19th year in education. Throughout my career, I’ve taught second grade, third grade, and now serve in reading intervention—also known as “Book Club,” which is truly my favorite role. I love working with students from kindergarten through fourth grade and focusing on building strong, confident readers.

I earned my Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education from Clemson University in 2007 and my Master’s Degree in Language and Literacy from the University of South Carolina in 2011. As a proud graduate of Lexington-Richland School District Five—having attended Chapin Elementary, Chapin Middle, and Chapin High—it’s an honor to now teach in the community where I grew up.

When I’m not at school, I enjoy spending time with my family and friends, reading great books, and hiking to waterfalls throughout South Carolina and North Carolina.

I’m looking forward to a fantastic year as we DREAM BIG, SOAR HIGH, and SHOW OUR PURPLE MARTIN PRIDE!
